Now that you are beginning to realize the importance of creating a Non-Financial Retirement Plan where do you begin?
We at An Intentional Life have created a step-by-step process to enable you to create a plan as unique as you are. We will start by having an initial phone consultation to determine which coaching package is best suited to meet your specific needs. All of our packages include the completion of an on-line retirement-readiness assessment – the Life Options Profile™. This assessment helps determine your overall readiness for retirement in six key areas: Career and Work, Finance and Insurance, Leisure and social, Family and Relationships, Personal Development, and Health and Wellness. More information about this assessment is found under the Assessment Tab.
In addition you will complete the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. This simple on-line self-assessment takes less than 15 minutes and provides a wealth of information to help you understand your core characteristics. Most personality tests focus on negative and neutral traits, but the VIA Survey focuses on your best qualities. The results of both the LOP and VIA Survey of Character Strengths will create a personalized foundation for a meaningful way ahead and will be the “filter” as you work on your final plan.
Once both assessments have been completed we will meet to discuss/interpret the results and determine how you would like to move forward.
If you have signed up for the more comprehensive coaching package, we will then proceed to the vision stage. Any good plan starts first with having a “vision” for what the future might hold. Through a vision board exercise we will create a “picture” of what ideal retirement would look like for you. In creating your vision board we will compare how your time is spent now – your current work, life, leisure balance, personal development, etc., and how (or if) you would like that allocation to change as you approach Retirement. This, in combination with your assessment results, will serve as an anchor for all of your retirement decisions moving forward.
All of this information about yourself can be exciting, as well as, a bit overwhelming. What is needed is a plan to get you from “Point A” to “Point B”, ultimately, to your retirement dream. In creating this plan we will utilize a step-by-step process incorporating a variety of tools, journaling exercises, guided conversations, etc. The end result will be a customized plan with specific measurable goals, and associated timeframes that will be as unique as you are. After experiencing this process you will be able to “tweak” your plan, as necessary, on your own in the future.
